Wyatt’s Take

  • Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom is forcing the WNBA to answer the question they’ve been dodging: what exactly is a woman?
  • After coaches wore ‘trans kids belong’ shirts and players attacked Sophie Cunningham for defending girls’ sports, Freedom called their bluff by declaring for the WNBA Draft.
  • The league is scrambling to figure out their stance while other major sports have already closed the loophole by requiring biological females only.

Enes Kanter Freedom isn’t backing down. The former NBA player said Saturday he was fully “prepared” to play in the WNBA, and he’s not kidding around.

Freedom kicked up a firestorm earlier this month when he “declared” for the WNBA Draft. His move came after Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham got crucified for stating the obvious: biological men shouldn’t compete against women in sports.

The WNBA has zero clarity on its gender eligibility policy. Meanwhile, players and coaches are lining up to support trans athletes joining the league. So Freedom decided to call their bluff and force them to either put up or shut up.

Appearing on Fox News Channel’s “My View with Lara Trump” on Saturday, Freedom didn’t mince words about his chances.

“I think I will be the best draft pick in WNBA history, literally.”

Freedom pointed to Golden State Valkyries star Gabby Williams’ vocal support for trans athletes and Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve’s “support trans kids” shirt as the final straw that pushed him to take action.

“So, there’s other major sports that obviously closed that loophole,” he explained. “They added ‘biological female’ or ‘born female’ in their collective bargaining.

But when I look at them, the WNBA, they didn’t have kind of, you know, reference to biological or anything like that. And all the coaches, I was watching this, and I believe the coach of Minnesota came out with a ‘trans kids belong’ (shirt), so I was like, if no one’s against it and all the coaches are OK with it, think about how much money I can bring, think about all the endorsement deals.”

League officials scrambled to hold emergency meetings about the trans athlete topic. They later issued a statement claiming they were “continuing the conversation” but then turned around and attacked the media for allegedly sowing division in the sport. They also called out “bad-faith” efforts to undermine the organization—apparently including Freedom’s perfectly logical challenge.

“The WNBA has no idea what they’re about to face,” Freedom said. “They’re still trying to figure out what a woman is.

So, let’s see if they can figure that out. So, let’s see what kind of rules that they’re gonna come up with.”

The controversy exploded when Cunningham took her stand on trans athletes in an interview with ESPN. She got hammered for it, but she didn’t back down.

“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that.’ I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Freedom told Trump that Cunningham deserves to be called what she is: an American hero.

“First of all, I want to say is, she is an American hero,” he said. “Everywhere she goes I see now a lot of people are coming out an actually defending her.

But obviously, if you are standing up for something you believe in, you’re gonna get hate all the time.”

“But I think she’s inspiring not only the players in the WNBA but girls from all over the world. Not only in America because I get so many messages and they’re saying that, from all over the world, they say, ‘Hey, if you ever see Sophie Cunningham, can you please say hi to her?'”

Rallies have been popping up before WNBA games in support of Cunningham. The latest one happened before the Fever’s game against the New York Liberty on Saturday. Real Americans are standing up for common sense and fairness in women’s sports.

Wyatt Matters

This is about protecting our daughters and granddaughters. Every parent in America knows the difference between boys and girls, but the woke elites running professional sports want to pretend biology doesn’t exist. Freedom is doing what needs to be done—forcing them to face reality. When a 6’10” man can waltz into a women’s league just by claiming he “identifies” as female, we’ve lost our minds. The WNBA better figure out what a woman is real quick, because hardworking Americans are done playing these games with our kids’ futures.
