January 1, Top LIV Golfer Delivers STUNNING Message After Funding Crisis

Wyatt’s Take
- PGA Tour winner Thomas Detry says LIV Golf’s format is ‘amazing’ and he’s staying put despite Saudi funding ending after 2026
- Multiple star players now defending the team model and shorter schedule, contradicting media narrative that everyone wants to flee back to PGA
- LIV golfers showing unity and refusing to abandon ship while CEO scrambles to find new investors
The future of LIV Golf hit a brick wall when news broke that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is pulling the plug on funding after this season. The breakaway tour relied on those massive purses and signing bonuses to lure top talent away from the PGA establishment.
But instead of mass panic and players scrambling for the exits, something unexpected is happening. Several big names are publicly backing LIV and its format.
Bryson DeChambeau already said he’s considering a YouTube career if the PGA doesn’t want him back, while praising LIV’s team model as a proven success. Thomas Pieters announced he’s never returning to the PGA Tour.
Now another 4Aces teammate is joining that chorus.
In a new interview with the “Beyond the Clubhouse” podcast, PGA Tour winner Thomas Detry made it crystal clear where he stands. He shut down his social media because of what he called “lies” spreading about LIV’s situation.
“The biggest misconception is, the product is amazing. I didn’t realize how good the product was. I think LIV’s an amazing product. We go all around the world, the tournaments are so good. Don’t take me wrong, there’s many things that can improve, but it’s still a start up. It’s only 4-years-old.”
Detry pushed back hard against the narrative that players are miserable and desperate to return to the PGA format. He said the opposite is true.
“You see sometimes on social media that the players hate it and want to come back and that’s not the truth. Players really love it out here and want to make this successful. So I think that’s what I got out of my first 6 weeks.”
The golfer said he’s committed for the long haul and called on teammates to show unity during the financial uncertainty.
“I’m fully supportive of the whole thing. I think the players who stand behind the whole thing as well. But now is the time for this whole league and every player out here to show cohesion and support for this whole thing. I think now is a moment where it’s not the right time to have individualistic people and ego-centric people going their own way. I think if everyone stands for each other and we all give this thing our full support, it’s going to go a long way. I’m fully supportive of the whole thing and believe in the future of LIV.”
When the PIF funding news broke, many assumed LIV would fold immediately. CEO Scott O’Neil is scrambling to find new investors before the 2026 deadline.
But players keep delivering a consistent message—they prefer LIV’s format to the PGA grind. That makes sense since they chose to leave the PGA establishment in the first place.
The benefits go beyond bigger paychecks. Shorter schedules, fewer tournaments, and more certainty appeal to players who want balance in their lives.
LIV Golf Virginia is underway right now at Trump National outside Washington, D.C. Not a single player backed out despite the funding crisis.
The assumption has been that the entire LIV field would rush back to the PGA Tour after 2026. Based on what players are saying publicly, that’s looking less and less likely.
Why It Matters
Working Americans understand what it’s like when the corporate establishment tries to crush competition and force everyone back into the old system. These golfers are standing their ground and defending a format that gives them more freedom and better quality of life. That’s worth fighting for, whether you’re swinging clubs or punching a clock.

Golf is not a team sport. I do think if you like it, LIV, and people support it, go for it. But whatever, just get out there and play. It’s a great game.
Just my opinion.
