January 1, Sports Media Meltdown Over Giants QB’s Political Choice Exposes Stunning Hypocrisy

Wyatt’s Take

  • Former ESPN commentator joins pile-on against Giants quarterback for exercising free speech—but only conservatives face this treatment
  • Left-wing sports media creates special rules for Trump supporters while giving progressive athletes a complete pass
  • Double standard reveals what we already knew: the sports media establishment doesn’t tolerate conservative voices

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has become the unexpected lightning rod of the 2026 NFL offseason. His crime? Introducing President Donald Trump at a recent rally with a brief, unremarkable speech.

The reaction from left-wing sports commentators has been swift and predictable.

Former player and current NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho called it “pretty stupid” for Dart to introduce Trump. Of course, it’s impossible to imagine Dart receiving the same criticism if he’d introduced Barack Obama, Joe Biden, or Kamala Harris.

Now former ESPN commentator Bomani Jones has piled on, joining the chorus of media voices attacking Dart while conveniently ignoring athletes who endorse left-wing politicians.

“This idea that we don’t care about the politics of athletes…yes, we do,” Jones said on his “The Right Time with Bomani Jones” show.

“Now, whether you care enough about the politics that it affects whether or not you root for them on your team, that becomes a different situation and that becomes just a little bit tricky. Like, will you, if you are a Giants fan, will you stop rooting for the Giants because Jaxson Dart is a Trumper? Probably not. But don’t tell me you don’t care.”

Jones dismissed concerns that Dart’s appearance might fracture the Giants’ locker room, despite teammate Abdul Carter’s public criticism.

“What struck me about this — and I also want to be clear about this — the whole ‘this is going to fracture the locker room’ thing. NFL locker rooms are wild, segregated, and full of white players who support Trump and black players who support Trump. Okay, that is no revolutionary rule. That’s not how the NFL works.”

But then Jones launched into a direct attack on Dart, implying the young quarterback is “embarrassing” other players and that supporting Trump represents some kind of unique offense compared to other politicians.

“…And this is what I’m saying to Jaxson Dart: ‘Take that monkey s— off. You embarrassing us,'” Jones said.

“And what I’m talking about is this, you in here, think about all the love that he got for them chains when he out here doing dances and all of this stuff. I guarantee you it’s a few cats in there that was like, ‘Oh, he cool.'”

Jones then revealed the core of the left’s double standard.

“I do think that it is important to note that Trump is not the same as any other politician. Like, standing with Trump, and people having a problem with it is not just, ‘I disagree with your politics.’ Somebody went up there and stood with Curtis Sliwa during the mayoral election…it’s not going to be a thing. This is very particularly about this very particular man.”

There’s the problem in a nutshell. Left-wing commentators like Jones treat Trump as though he represents unimaginable evil, then create special rules around behavior based on their wildly inaccurate opinions.

They conveniently ignore that the left also compared Mitt Romney—a moderate Republican figure—to Hitler. Dart would receive criticism from sports media for introducing any right-wing politician, because sports media is dominated by the political left and refuses to tolerate opposition.

Jones would never criticize Abdul Carter for joining Kamala Harris on stage. Why? Because he supports Harris and views her policies as reasonable and necessary.

He refuses to accept that millions of Americans feel the same way about Trump’s policies. Dart must be chastised because Trump is uniquely unacceptable in Jones’s worldview—even though just a year and a half ago, Trump won the popular vote and carried 31 of the 50 states.

Harris isn’t uniquely unacceptable to Jones, so therefore she’s not divisive in his eyes. It’s predictable, ridiculous, and absurd.

Wyatt Matters

This whole episode shows exactly why everyday Americans have tuned out the mainstream sports media. They lecture working people about tolerance while refusing to tolerate anyone who disagrees with them politically. A young quarterback exercises his First Amendment right, and the media elite act like he committed a crime. Meanwhile, athletes who campaign for left-wing candidates get praised for “using their platform.” It’s a rigged game, and folks in Middle America see right through it.
