Illinois officials recently unveiled a new street sign declaring a massive stretch of Bridgeview as Little Palestine.

This move covers a district from 79th Street to 113th Street that houses over 200 Arab-owned businesses.

The new designation highlights one of the largest Palestinian-American communities in the United States.

Residents say the area allows them to find anything they need within their own cultural sphere.

“As a Palestinian walking here in the Little Palestine area, seeing all these businesses, all these Palestinian businesses, you can find anything you want,” said local bakery owner Waseem Al-Wawi.

The move follows formal resolutions passed at the state level by the Illinois House.

Advocates for the change say it will help attract new cultural projects and more shoppers to the area.

“It is an honor and a responsibility at the same time,” said restaurant owner Muhammad Baste.

He believes the sign will help people understand his culture better through dining and community interaction.

The resolution received support from several Democratic leaders in the state legislature.
