On Thursday’s “News Night with Abby Phillip,” there was a big discussion about a man named Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who is from El Salvador. Some folks want him to come back to the U.S., but others think that might not be a great idea.
Senator Chris Van Hollen met up with Abrego Garcia over in El Salvador. They even took pictures with President Nayib Bukele, who said Abrego Garcia should stay there in El Salvador. Now, some people like Scott Jennings are scratching their heads, wondering why some in the U.S. are pushing to bring him back, especially with all the serious stuff tied to him.
See, Abrego Garcia’s got a pretty troubling track record. He’s been in trouble for some really bad things, including being involved with gangs like MS-13 and other crimes. He even tried getting asylum in the U.S. after getting arrested in 2019, but it didn’t work because the courts said “no” several times.
Batya Ungar-Sargon pointed out how he had his chance in U.S. courts, and they found good reasons not to let him stay. He’s got charges from trafficking to domestic violence against him. All these things have been looked at by judges before.
The U.S. Supreme Court even said if El Salvador lets him go, the U.S. has to deal with him coming back somehow. But right now, he’s staying in El Salvador, and some folks think that’s where he should stay, considering his past.

Some people think Kilmar Abrego Garcia should return to the U.S., but his past makes this a tough choice. He was involved with gangs like MS-13 and did some other really bad things. Even U.S. courts said he shouldn’t stay because of these serious issues. He tried to get asylum but wasn’t successful.
Even though some folks are pushing for him to come back, it’s important to remember the risks. He has been tied to lots of crimes, like trafficking and domestic violence. The U.S. Supreme Court said if El Salvador decides to let him go, he could return, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
It might be safer for everyone if he stays in El Salvador instead. With all the things he’s done, bringing him back could cause more problems. It’s a tough decision, but the safety of the community should come first. Some discussions can help us understand what’s best for everyone involved.

I don’t believe the issue is truely about Mr. Garcia. It’s about the disturbing fact that the entire Trump Administration has said it was an error but there isn’t anything we can do about it. So…. what happens when ICE and the Administration makes another mistake and its your son or daughter, or my son or daughter. Do we just shrug it off and do nothing? Regardless of Mr. Garcias past, every single person should be able to plead their case to a non-biased judge just to make sure they are properly identified, found guily, and an administrative error hasn’t occured.
Please pay attention to how often this administration references someone that was affiliated to Nazi Germany. Think it can’t happen again??
