January 1, Two Men Acquitted in Kidnapping Plot
A jury acquitted two men in a conspiracy to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) in 2020.
While the jury reached a not guilty verdict for Brandon Caserta and Daniel Harris, it was hung on defendants Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr.
The defense had argued that undercover FBI agents had tricked the men into agreeing to the plot.
“I think what the FBI did is unconscionable,” said Michael Hills, Caserta’s attorney.
“And I think the jury just sent them a message loud and clear that these tactics — we’re not going to condone what they’ve done here.”
The high-profile trial began on March 8, spanning 20 days.
