Wyatt’s Take

  • President Trump says vandals destroyed National Mall grass near the WWII Memorial, contradicting media narratives that blamed his July 4th celebration.
  • Mainstream press rushes to blame event infrastructure while ignoring evidence of deliberate damage, including threatening messages found at the site.
  • An arrest was made for vandalizing the World War II Memorial with graffiti and fountain damage, but questions remain about the full scope of destruction.

President Donald Trump is calling out vandals for destroying large sections of grass on the National Mall near the World War II Memorial. The same area hosted massive crowds during Trump’s Fourth of July celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary.

Trump shared photos showing patches of brown, dead grass across the sprawling turf that was previously lush and green. The damage covers significant portions of the lawn connecting the World War II Memorial to the Reflecting Pool.

“Look what VANDALS did to the grass connecting the vandalized World War II Monument and the vandalized Reflecting Pool, which will be opened again, and better than ever, shortly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Anybody who thinks the Reflecting Pool wasn’t vandalized should go back to Law School!” he continued.

The president had constructed a large stage and invited Americans to gather on the lawn for his Independence Day celebration last month. Crowds filled the area to hear from Trump and watch fireworks celebrating the nation’s semiquicentennial.

Liberal media outlets have rushed to blame the grass damage on event infrastructure from Trump’s celebration. Photos from the event show a bandstand and seating areas covering portions of the lawn. Images from subsequent days showed workers removing structures, revealing damaged grass underneath.

But Trump maintains vandals are responsible for the destruction. He’s repeatedly pointed to evidence of deliberate damage to his renovation projects in Washington, D.C., even as establishment figures dismiss his claims.

Earlier this month, Trump criticized U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro after her office moved to dismiss a vandalism case. Newly disclosed evidence showed widespread liner damage stemming from flawed installation and rushed completion ahead of Independence Day events, undermining the prosecution.

On Friday, authorities made an arrest in connection with vandalism at the World War II Memorial. The words “Clean hands dirty $” were found painted on the monument, and bubbles filled a fountain.

Felony charges are being brought against Melissa Farris, according to Pirro.

Charging documents in that case don’t mention the grass area Trump referenced in his social media post. Authorities said Farris was previously arrested for camping on federal property near the World War II Memorial, though not at the specific spot Trump identified.

On August 1st, Trump posted a different photo of the same dead grass area that appeared to show the numbers “86 47.” Federal officials argue those numbers represent a threat against Trump as the 47th president. The numbers aren’t visible in the photo Trump shared Sunday.

Trump cited that earlier image as evidence against Pirro’s conclusion about the Reflecting Pool case.

“There may have been some contractor difficulty, but the major damage was caused by VANDALS!” he wrote.

The incident represents another chapter in the ongoing tension between Trump’s efforts to restore national monuments and those who want to undermine his legacy. Trump transformed Independence Day into a true celebration of American patriotism, drawing massive crowds to honor the nation’s founding.

Wyatt Matters

When a president brings patriotic celebration back to our national monuments, the establishment media looks for any excuse to criticize. Trump gave ordinary Americans a chance to celebrate our country’s birthday on hallowed ground, and now they’re trying to blame him for vandalism. The real story is about who respects our memorials and who doesn’t—and one arrest already tells us plenty about where the real damage came from.
