Wyatt’s Take

  • Vice President J.D. Vance says his new book focuses on his conversion to Catholicism and how faith shapes his public life.
  • Vance was previously an atheist before becoming Catholic in 2019, and the memoir explores what drew him back.
  • The book, COMMUNION, is set to release in June 2026 and follows his earlier bestseller about growing up in Ohio.

Vice President J.D. Vance is opening up about his walk with God in a new book.

The memoir focuses on his conversion to Catholicism and how faith now guides his public life.

The Vice President is sharing an intimate look at why he initially walked away from Christianity.

He hopes his return to the Church will help other Americans seeking a similar spiritual path.

“The story of how I regained my faith, of course, only happened because I had lost it to begin with,” Vance said.

“The interesting question that hangs over this book, and over my mind, is why I ever strayed from the path.”

The book details his 2019 baptism at St. Gertrude Priory in Cincinnati.

It explores why the faith of his youth did not stick and what brought him back to God’s grace as an adult.

“I’m a Christian, and I became a Christian because I believe that Jesus Christ’s teachings are true,” Vance explained.

“But I didn’t always think that, and by sharing my journey I might be helpful to others—Catholic, Protestant, or otherwise—who are seeking reconciliation with God.”

Wyatt Matters
