De la Espriella ran on a platform of economic growth, law and order, and resistance to the socialist policies that have devastated neighboring Venezuela. His win sends a clear message that South Americans are rejecting the failed ideology that has brought nothing but poverty and oppression wherever it’s been tried.

The Trump endorsement proved decisive in mobilizing conservative voters and signaling to the Colombian people that they had a true ally in the fight against radical leftism. It’s a stark contrast to the current administration’s weak-kneed approach to the region, which has emboldened dictators and undermined democratic allies.
