  • Illegal migrant drivers linked to deadly crashes in Indiana.
  • Washington faces pressure as families pay the ultimate price.

Washington is looking into shady trucking companies changing their names after getting shut down, as crashes involving illegal migrant drivers keep taking American lives. Indiana Republican Sen. Jim Banks urged the Department of Transportation to investigate these “chameleon carriers” operating on new papers after being banned.

“Whatever is going on with Indiana’s trucking clusters, it is killing Hoosiers,” Banks wrote to the Federal Motor Carrier Administration. He called for a full investigation and tough action to stop these dangerous firms for good.

As illegal migrants continue to drive trucks under the radar, the problem has grown worse. A “chameleon carrier” is any company that avoids punishment by switching DOT numbers, names, or owners while keeping the same trucks and staff. When shut down, they simply start over with fake new details.

Last week, Indiana State Police arrested Sukhdeep Singh, an Indian national who entered the country illegally, after a wreck killed 64-year-old Terry Schultz. Singh now sits in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. Just a few weeks earlier, another illegal migrant, Bekzhan Beishekeev from Kyrgyzstan, allegedly killed four people in a similar incident while driving for a chameleon carrier.

“Seven Hoosiers have been killed in six months by illegal alien truck drivers,” Banks stated. He launched a tip line for truckers, revealing nearly 10,000 Indiana-based carriers registered in six years, with over 2,000 companies sharing just two surnames. One neighborhood in Greenwood holds 1,000 new trucking companies, more than the number of homes.

The Trump administration is tightening rules on who can get a commercial driver’s license, making it harder for illegal migrants to drive semis. The DOT has removed loopholes, improved background checks, and limited certain license types to protect the public.

Federal officials, including Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, recently announced new steps to crack down on chameleon carriers. “When we get on the road, we should expect that we should be safe,” Duffy said. “And that those who drive those 80,000-pound big rigs, that they are well-trained, they’re well-qualified, and they’re going to be safe.”

It’s time to demand real consequences for those exploiting loopholes while putting families’ lives at risk. We deserve safe roads and honest business.

Wyatt Matters

Trucking keeps America running, but families shouldn’t pay with their lives because the system favors loopholes over safety. It’s commonsense to protect our neighbors and hold shady actors accountable. That means defending the backbone of our country — honest workers and safe roads.

With all of the truck inspection stations this should not present an unsolvable issue. Anyone found to be operating in an illegal manner in this country should be shut down immediately, the vehicle confiscated and the driver arrested and jailed. Then, they should go after whom-ever is running the trucking company. Same outcome! Arrest and jail including massive fines

We lost one of our townspeople to one of these truckers. He was traveling to a nearby town with his wife and grandkids. He made some purchases and wa returning home when something blew out of his truck. He pulled off the road and got out to retrieve the article. A semi hit him and brutally killed him. His family saw the whole thing. It was one of these truckers mentioned here. This man worked in our local government and they are shut down today for his funeral. This is happening all over our state. This trucker was a driver from Wisconsin. Please prosecute those involved to the maximum.
