January 1, Three Navy Sailors Found Dead Within One Week
Three sailors assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington died within a week of each other, sparking an investigation by the Navy and local authorities.
One sailor was found unresponsive on the ship on April 15, and the other two sailors were found at locations off base on April 9 and 10.
The Navy did not provide the cause of death for any of the service members but said “there is no initial indication to suggest there is a correlation between these tragic events.”
“The incident is under investigation and the command continues to cooperate with [the Naval Criminal Investigative Service],” said Naval Air Forces Atlantic spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Rob Myers.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends, and shipmates of our Sailors.”
