A Tennessee high school science teacher has been suspended after she allegedly praised the murder of Christian activist Charlie Kirk in a social media post. Williamson County Schools confirmed the suspension, stating an investigation is underway as required by state law.

Williamson County Schools Executive Director of Communications Carol Birdsong condemned the post, saying,

“Expressions that glorify or trivialize violence, especially in moments of a national tragedy, are inappropriate and unacceptable.”

District leaders emphasized these comments go against the district’s values and community trust.

The teacher, identified as Emily Orbison, reportedly criticized Kirk and referenced school shooting drills in her Instagram post. She told her followers not to mourn Kirk’s death, calling it “the price of doing business.”

District Superintendent Jason Golden urged all employees to practice empathy and decency online, reminding them that “words matter.” School Board Member Tony Bostic said,

“Regardless of what someone might feel about Charlie Kirk’s political beliefs, there is absolutely no justification EVER for political violence.”

State Rep. Lee Reeves called for Orbison’s firing, rejecting any tolerance for radicals who celebrate murder in schools. His wife, a school board member, also promised that the matter would be dealt with seriously and that respect is owed to the community and its children.

The Williamson County School Board is meeting soon, with heightened attention on this issue from concerned residents. Other professionals nationwide have also faced discipline after callous statements about Kirk’s assassination, as employers insist on upholding standards of decency and responsibility.
