January 1, New Study Ranks Best Places to Live in US
Ann Arbor, Michigan, is the best place to live in the U.S., according to a new analysis of the cities that most frequently top national lists.
Ann Arbor, the home of the University of Michigan, topped the list due to its low crime rates, diverse job market, and a growing technology industry.
Researchers compiled the list based on 10 different rankings listed by outlets including Business Insider, Travel + Leisure, and Bankrate.
Ann Arbor topped the list, followed by Raleigh, North Carolina; Huntsville, Alabama; Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Like the Michigan city, Raleigh scored the number two spot due to its booming technology sector. The North Carolina capital is part of the area’s Research Triangle — Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill are each home to a well-regarded research university: North Carolina State University, Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, respectively.
Huntsville, Alabama, ranked at number three due, in part, to its popularity with tech companies and craft breweries, per the report. Artists are also attracted to the city, which is home to the largest privately owned arts facility in the region.
Fayetteville, Arkansas, found near the Ozark Mountains, is appealing to nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, given its multitude of state parks, walking trails, and community green spaces. The city is also home to the University of Arkansas.
Rounding out the list at number five is Colorado Springs, Colorado. Like Fayetteville, it’s popular among outdoor enthusiasts. The area is also home to quality schools, parks, and cultural attractions. Colorado Springs is also close to Denver and well-known ski resorts Aspen and Vail — but it typically offers more affordable housing options and less traffic than these other areas.
