January 1, Legendary Actor Passes Away at 88: Unveiling the Illustrious Career and Final Project
Legendary actor Donald Sutherland, known for his roles in the Hunger Games and Pride & Prejudice, passed away at 88 on Thursday. He had been battling a long illness and died in Miami, according to the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). The cause of his death remains undisclosed.
Born on July 17, 1935, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Sutherland rose to fame after his breakthrough performance in the 1967 World War II film, The Dirty Dozen. With a remarkable career spanning over 60 years, he accumulated 200 film and TV credits. His 200th acting credit, Heart Land, is currently in pre-production.
Sutherland’s impressive body of work also includes memorable roles in the 1970 film M*A*S*H, where he played Hawkeye Pierce. In the 1970 film, Kelly’s Heroes, he portrayed Sergeant Oddball alongside Clint Eastwood. In the 1973 film, Don’t Look Now, he played John Baxter. Some of his other notable projects include Dirty Sexy Money, Trust, The Undoing, and The Pillars of the Earth.
The accomplished actor’s accolades include a Golden Globe for the television movie Path to War. He also received an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for his role in the miniseries Citizen X. Sutherland is survived by his wife Francine Racette, his sons Roeg, Rossif, Angus, and Kiefer, his daughter Rachel, and four grandchildren.

As everyone pays their respects to Sutherland need we not forget that he was Jane Fonda’s right-hand man in supporting the communist and praising the death of American soldiers during the Vietnam war.
