January 1, FDA Warns Almond Contaminated Lactaid Milk Hits 24 States

Living with lactose intolerance can be challenging, especially if you enjoy classic American favorites like a bowl of ice cream or a creamy fettuccine alfredo. While there are plenty of alternatives out there, from almond milk lattes to oat milk creamers, nothing quite hits the spot like real dairy. That’s where Lactaid milk comes in – it offers the full flavor and nutritional benefits of traditional milk without the lactose. But for those who recently stocked their fridges, there’s an important alert to heed.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that HP Hood LLC has voluntarily recalled several 96-ounce containers of Lactaid milk. For Americans concerned about their health and the safety of their food, this is a crucial update. Whether you’re in Alabama, Texas, Ohio, or one of the other 24 states affected, you’ll want to check those expiration dates and codes.

The contaminated batches include various versions of the 96-ounce Lactaid milk – Whole Milk, 2% Milk, 1% Milk, Fat-Free Milk, and 2% Calcium Enriched Milk. They carry the code 51-4109 P2 and best-by dates from November 22 to December 5 of this year. The presence of trace amounts of almond, not listed on the label, was uncovered during routine checks. And for those with strong sensitivities or allergies, this poses a serious health risk.

People with tree nut allergies can experience severe reactions, from hives to potentially fatal anaphylaxis, which compromises breathing and could send the body into shock. These allergic reactions aren’t something to take lightly, and timely information can make all the difference.

So far, no illnesses have been reported due to this recall. However, if you discover a recalled product in your fridge, you should return it to the store where it was purchased to get a full refund or exchange it. For any further questions or assistance, Hood Consumer Affairs can be contacted directly at 800-242-2423 during regular business hours.

In a time when many Americans are already dealing with enough daily challenges, it’s important to stay vigilant about the safety of the products we consume. Always keep an eye out for updates and ensure your family’s well-being is a top priority.

Why return if you’re not allergic to almonds?
