Wyatt’s Take

  • Kendal Daniels went from being stretchered off the field in fear to delivering the game-sealing play one week later, proving heart and grit still matter in pro football.
  • The Falcons defense forced four turnovers and the rookie led the way with a career-best 11 tackles and a crucial interception against a once-unbeaten 49ers squad.
  • Daniels’ recovery and heroics are a reminder that real toughness comes from faith, family, and refusing to quit when the going gets tough.

Last week rookie linebacker Kendal Daniels was stretchered off the field after a hard hit that had everyone holding their breath. One week later he was back on the field making the play that sealed a Falcons win over the previously undefeated 49ers.

The Falcons were protecting a nine-point lead late in the fourth quarter when George Kittle caught a pass and tried to rumble upfield. Jessie Bates III tripped him up and Kittle lost the football.

“I scared a lot of people. It was a scary play,” Daniels said. “I’m blessed to come out how I did…”

Daniels dove on the loose ball with under a minute remaining, ending any comeback hopes and handing the 49ers their first loss of the season. The Falcons improved to 3-5 while Daniels finished with a career-high 11 tackles and an interception.

His best moment came earlier when he timed a jump perfectly, tipped a Brock Purdy pass, and came down with the pick. Daniels nearly took it all the way for a touchdown before being pushed out of bounds.

The week before, Daniels had delivered a hit on Chicago tight end Colston Loveland that left him motionless for several minutes. Trainers placed him on a stretcher as a precaution and the team later confirmed he was conscious and moving his extremities.

By midweek he was cleared for practice and ready to go against San Francisco. His teammates saw the same determined young man who had been drafted in the fourth round out of Oklahoma.

Daniels will carry that momentum into next week’s NFC South showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who bounced back with a big win of their own on Sunday.

Wyatt Matters

Hard work, faith, and never giving up are the values that still win games and build character in this country. Young men like Kendal Daniels show that real toughness isn’t just physical, it’s about getting back up when life knocks you down.
