January 1, Oregon DMV Registering Noncitizens Sparks Voter Integrity Concerns
The Oregon DMV has admitted to wrongfully registering at least 306 noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections, which has sparked widespread concern over the integrity of automatic voter registration programs. These errors have been occurring since 2021 due to a program that automatically registered anyone who obtained a driver’s license or state ID. State officials anticipate uncovering more wrongful registrations as Election Day approaches.
Oregon, which has allowed noncitizens to obtain driver’s licenses since 2019, has identified 306 wrongful registrations, with just two of these individuals having cast ballots since 2021. Nonetheless, this discovery casts a shadow of doubt over the state’s election processes.
Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade announced that the individuals identified “will be notified by mail that they will not receive a ballot unless they demonstrate that they are eligible to vote.” Despite this lapse, Griffin-Valade and Governor Tina Kotek defend the automatic voter registration system, insisting that it brings numerous benefits and will not impact the 2024 election.
Governor Kotek stated, “While this error is regrettable, the secretary and the Elections Division stand by automatic voter registration and its many benefits. My office will continue to closely monitor the situation. This situation will not impact the 2024 election in any way.”
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, who has been leading efforts to remove illegal voter registrations in Ohio, highlighted the broader issues associated with automatic voter registration nationwide. LaRose pointed out the difficulties that states face when verifying voter rolls, emphasizing the complex nature of cross-referencing voter data with DMV records and the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database.
LaRose explained, “This is why we have resisted so-called automatic voter registration in Ohio. We have multiple really convenient ways to register in Ohio, but there are people who should not be registered, like noncitizens, and there are people who simply don’t want to be registered.”
Adding to the frustration, LaRose mentioned that states have to pay for each query of the SAVE database, making the process both cumbersome and costly. He also revealed that his requests for more comprehensive data access from the Department of Homeland Security have been denied.
“I don’t usually assume people’s intentions, but it would seem they don’t want us to use that information to identify noncitizens,” LaRose remarked.
As we move closer to the 2024 election, it’s clear that the integrity of automatic voter registration is under significant scrutiny. The revelations from Oregon reinforce the need for stringent oversight and comprehensive measures to ensure that only eligible citizens are granted the vital right to vote.

Agree totally. We used to drive thru Portland, play golf at Pumpkin Ridge,on way to Palm Desert. Was beautiful city. Now, I would NEVER visit Oregon again. We loved to drive to coast, stay at Lincoln City,Gold City etc. The DEMONRATS have literally destroyed the state. WHY?? Because U keep voting in Dems. I can’t understand that, when one reads of all the carnage the follows BLUE states/cities.

This is why using a Drivers License to be a Voter ID is incomplete. Drivers Licenses are OFTEN provided to non-citizens, so using them should not qualify a person to vote. A National ID that operates like a Visa Credit Card would ID the Voter with a photo, a credit verification, Social Security number(last 4 numbers), Printed name, and signature, and Party affiliation. This card verifies the legitimacy of the holder, and their ability to pay taxes. This is a Card that allows & enables the Treasury to sent the voter a bill to cover their FAIR share, and establishes a funding source for ny proposed SPENDING. We know that voters would not disagree to,”pay their fair share”, right?
The Democrats have spent $35 Trillion on unfunded Federal Spending, this card will sent Democrats a bill for their FAIR share.
