Wyatt’s Take

  • Ghislaine Maxwell may have lied on her path to U.S. citizenship.
  • Officials say anyone found to have committed citizenship fraud could lose their status.
  • The Trump team wants tougher rules and more cases investigated.

Ghislaine Maxwell, once a high-society figure now convicted for her ties to Jeffrey Epstein, could lose her U.S. citizenship. Documents reveal she may have left out her criminal actions when she applied to become an American over 20 years ago.

The Department of Justice shared that anyone who secures citizenship through lies could face denaturalization. “USCIS … reviews cases where there is credible evidence that citizenship was obtained through fraud or misrepresentation,” said USCIS spokesman Matthew Tragesser.

“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards fraud in the naturalization process and will pursue denaturalization proceedings for any individual who lied or misrepresented themselves, regardless of who they are.”

Maxwell, originally from the UK with French citizenship too, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2002. But her paperwork said she’d never committed crimes or procured anyone for prostitution. Her conviction and prison sentence now cast doubt on those answers.

Immigration officials rarely strip citizenship, but the Trump administration wants that to change. They’re pushing for more cases against those who lied during the process and even building new vetting systems.

Recently, Maxwell refused to testify to Congress, pleading the Fifth, but she offered to work with prosecutors — if President Trump would grant her clemency.

Stay sharp and informed — the rules you follow should apply to everyone, no matter their connections.

Wyatt Matters
