  • A former college football player tied to a high-speed highway race is now facing a $2.88 million default judgment.
  • Theodore “Teddy” Knox was found grossly negligent after failing to appear in court for the lawsuit.
  • The ruling is the latest in a string of major financial penalties connected to the deadly Dallas wreck.

A former college football player involved in a high-speed highway race with NFL star Rashee Rice is facing a massive financial penalty.

Theodore “Teddy” Knox was hit with a $2.88 million default judgment after failing to appear in court for a lawsuit filed by a crash victim.

Knox was racing a Corvette against Rice’s Lamborghini when they caused a multi-car pileup in Dallas.

A judge found Knox grossly negligent after he failed to respond to the legal proceedings.

This ruling marks the third major judgment against Knox, totaling millions in owed damages to various victims.

The victim’s attorney, Marc Lenahan, noted the legal necessity of the filing but expressed hope for the young man’s future.

“Personally, it pleases us that Teddy hasn’t made further mistakes that we’re aware of. If a team gives him a chance to prove that he’s walking the right path now, we’ll be rooting for him.”

Knox and Rice both pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the incident, including racing on a highway and causing serious bodily injury.

Both men received 30 days in jail and five years of probation for their roles in the wreck.

While Rice returned to the NFL after a suspension, Knox was suspended by SMU and has not played college football since the incident.

Rice also paid over $115,000 in medical expenses for victims as part of his plea deal.

Wyatt Matters

Reckless actions on the road can leave lasting damage for victims, families, and communities. Personal responsibility matters, and consequences should be clear when lives are put at risk.
