January 1, Florida Teenage Mother Allegedly Poisons Baby with Fentanyl-Laced Formula

In a tragic case of child endangerment, a Florida teenage mother reportedly caused her baby’s death by mixing the infant’s formula with what she believed was cocaine, intending to make him sleep while she rested, according to Nassau County police.

However, unbeknownst to the mother, the orange pill bottle didn’t contain cocaine, but a lethal amount of fentanyl, enough to kill 10 adults, as stated by Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper at a press conference held on Thursday.

On June 26, first responders arrived at the scene to find the 10-month-old boy lying unconscious and pulseless in the living room.

Despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive the infant.

The mother, who remains unnamed due to her age, allegedly attempted to deceive the police with a series of falsehoods.

However, inconsistencies in her stories led investigators to unravel the truth, resulting in her eventual confession.

According to Sheriff Leeper, the young mother, like many others, was exhausted and in need of rest.

Yet, he stated, “What’s not normal is what the mother put in the baby’s bottle to go to sleep.”

After preparing the formula, she reportedly retrieved an orange pill container from the bathroom and mixed its contents, which she thought was cocaine, into the bottle.

The baby never woke up.

Questioning the mother’s motives, Leeper asked, “Now who does that? What mother would do that? That’s not normal. That’s sick … Babies are the most vulnerable among us. They’re dependent on us for everything.”

The sheriff displayed a Mickey Mouse bottle, retrieved from the scene, which tested positive for the presence of fentanyl.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed that the infant died from fentanyl poisoning.

The mother has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance.

During her booking, she reportedly informed officers that she might be pregnant again, an alarming disclosure that adds another layer of concern to this tragic story.
