  • The FBI and Secret Service acted fast after threats were allegedly made against President Trump.
  • Campus disorder and radical behavior set off the chain of events.

The FBI and Secret Service arrested Derek Lopez, 27, after he allegedly threatened President Trump. He had been let go by Illinois State University after being accused of causing trouble at a campus event supporting free speech.

According to the FBI, “The arrest follows a month-long investigation coordinated with the above agencies, which also included the Illinois State University Police Department, regarding Lopez’s online and in-person activities.”

During a campus incident, Lopez was accused of flipping a table at a booth hosted by Turning Point USA. Witnesses claim he justified his actions by saying, “Well, you know, Jesus did it, so you know I gotta do it, right?” He also said, “Thanks, guys, have a great day,” as recorded in a video.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated, “The threats against President Trump allegedly posted by this individual are heinous and have no place in American society. Let this be a message to all who consider threats of violence not just against public officials, but any American, that this FBI will find you and bring you to justice.”

Lopez has been charged with threatening the president, along with counts of disorderly conduct and damage to property. He already had his first court appearance as the case moves forward.

The university noted his termination was pending further investigation.

Stay alert, folks. Troubling behavior at colleges can spiral into dangerous headlines, and it’s proof we need accountability everywhere—even in our own communities.
