Effective Altruism sounds harmless when the media calls it a simple plan to do good. Behind the sales pitch sits a radical ideology that puts numbers above human dignity and God-given rights.

Princeton philosopher Peter Singer laid the foundation. He argued that infants do not deserve the same protection as self-aware adults and could be candidates for infanticide. Those views traveled straight into EA circles and explain why its followers vote almost entirely for Democrats.

Let me defend effective altruists’ concern for shrimp welfare. We don’t know whether shrimp are conscious. But if they are conscious and can feel pain, we should be willing to spend resources to reduce the suffering we inflict on them. We don’t need certainty to justify spending resources to reduce the risk that we’re torturing conscious beings. Yes, reducing this to math can yield absurd conclusions about, say, how many babies we should sacrifice to spare how many shrimp from suffering. But any well-defined moral system can lead to troubling conclusions, and that doesn’t excuse cruelty to beings that may be conscious nor justify not thinking carefully about moral choices.

William MacAskill took the movement global. He sold young people on “earning to give,” a plan to chase big money then hand it over to EA-approved causes. MacAskill also pushed “longtermism,” the claim that the needs of trillions of future beings outweigh the rights of people alive today.

The reasoning quickly turned absurd. MacAskill and his ex-wife once suggested mass slaughter of wild predators like lions to reduce animal suffering. Another EA voice declared insects matter more than people in the aggregate. Yet another professor argued humans must spend money to protect shrimp from pain.

EA also treats truth as optional. Liron Shapira openly announced he was registering as a Republican simply to sell the AI extinction story to conservatives. He called himself a one-issue voter focused on preventing human extinction.

Sam Bankman-Fried became the movement’s biggest patron through FTX. After his fraud conviction, EA figures rushed to disown him even though MacAskill had introduced him to the earning-to-give doctrine and helped steer millions into Democratic causes.

Today the same network operates through Open Philanthropy and the Center for AI Safety. They funnel cash into think tanks and lobby groups while trying to shed the EA label. The goal remains the same: lock down AI development under the banner of safety.

Trump administration officials see the threat clearly. Department of War CTO Emil Michael stated the United States will never be an effective altruist country. Other officials call the effort the Doomer Industrial Complex that would hand America’s advantage to China.

Middle America still believes every human life holds equal worth under God and that families, not far-off algorithms, come first. When elites trade those truths for utility scores, working people have every right to push back and protect the country they love.
