January 1, DHS Says More Deportations Coming Soon
Wyatt’s Take
- The Department of Homeland Security is increasing deportation efforts.
- Thousands of new ICE officers are being hired to help enforce immigration laws.
- The government expects deportation numbers to keep rising.
DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin said the department is hiring thousands of new ICE enforcement officers with funding from Congress.
“Congress has given us this funding…to be hiring more than 10,000 new ICE enforcement officers. I know about 5,000 have been hired. So, we are certainly on our way, but we expect those numbers to rise.”
The plan is to increase staff and boost deportations significantly.
Middle America has a vested interest in seeing strong borders and common-sense law enforcement. When the government puts resources into immigration enforcement, it answers a call many folks have been making for years: keep our communities safe and our laws respected.
