January 1, Desperately seeking Kamala: the absentee VP

Vice President Kamala Harris has been conspicuous by her absence lately, as President Biden faces mounting pressure over the botched Afghanistan withdrawal and the ongoing border crisis.

“If I’m Kamala Harris right now, I’m extremely offended because you have been used,” co-host of “The Five,” Will Cain, said. “They used you to pander to a voting base to get votes. They had a minority, they had a woman, and now that they don’t need her, they have shelved her because her approval rating is -19.”

The VP has not been easy to find. She took recent trips to Vietnam and Singapore amid the chaos in Afghanistan. Then, she appeared in Hawaii to visit Pearl Harbor. Press was barred from the event.

Some speculate that Harris is being kept out of sight by design. Her recent poll numbers show a 35% approval and a 54% disapproval, atypical for a VP this early in the administration’s run.

Harris has a hard time finding support, even among her supporters.

“I’d vote for her. But I don’t think she can win. And I wouldn’t vote for her in a primary,” Pennsylvania retiree Susan Giffen told the Los Angeles Times.
