Wyatt’s Take

  • Liberal independents entering Senate races in Montana, South Dakota, Idaho.
  • Democrats refuse to yield, risking vote splits that gift GOP wins.
  • Toxic Dem brand forces outsiders who may fare better against Republicans.

Independent candidates with left-leaning views are running for Senate in deep-red states, echoing Nebraska’s Dan Osborn.

Local Democrats won’t step aside, creating headaches that could solidify Republican control.

In Montana, former University President Seth Bodnar filed as an independent on the last ballot day.

That matched the announcement of GOP Sen. Steve Daines’ retirement, aimed at blocking a tough Democratic foe.

Montana Democrats recommitted to their four primary candidates only.

“We are launching a campaign that’s gonna represent all Montanans,” Bodnar said.

“You know, we’re working to build a coalition, a coalition of independents, of Republicans, of Democrats, of Montanans, who frankly are fed up with battling over red versus blue, and the partisan name calling, and insiders that are working to distract us and divide us.”

In South Dakota, Brian Bengs pushes as an independent after past Democratic and indie runs.

He urges clearing the field to avoid splits but Democrats reject him despite his strong fundraising.

“We have no interest in supporting the independent candidate running,” said state Democratic Party Vice Chair Jessica Meyers.

This infighting spells trouble for Democrats in places working folks know need real change over party games.

Stand strong with heartland values—forward this to neighbors tired of Washington nonsense.
