A Boston police officer faces manslaughter charges after a fatal encounter with a man who had dozens of prior criminal offenses.
Nicholas O’Malley shot Stephenson King Jr. following a reported carjacking and police cruiser ramming.
Ben Crump has joined the case to demand accountability from the city.
Meanwhile, local supporters have raised over $500,000 to help the officer’s family with legal costs.
The shooting happened after King allegedly carjacked a woman outside a pizza shop and tried to flee in the stolen car.
Investigators claim evidence contradicts the officer’s account of the events.
“The arrest and arraignment of the officer who killed him speaks volumes about the gravity of this case,” Ben Crump stated.
“This family deserves the full truth, real accountability, and justice that is not delayed or denied,” Crump added.
Supporters of the officer note that he has two young children and faces an uncertain financial future.
Sixty police officers attended his arraignment to show their solidarity.
“The O’Malley family is facing an incredibly difficult time due to unforeseen circumstances, and they need our support now more than ever,” the officer’s fundraiser stated.
