January 1, Democrats Clash Over Immigration, Homeland Security Shifts Direction

Wyatt’s Take
- The Senate confirmed Markwayne Mullin to lead the Department of Homeland Security in a 54-45 vote.
- The confirmation drew a divided response, with Rand Paul opposing and two Democrats backing Mullin.
- The move signals a new focus on border enforcement and deportation efforts.
The Senate voted 54-45 to confirm Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) as DHS secretary.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was the only Republican to vote against the confirmation. Two Democrats, John Fetterman and Martin Heinrich, broke ranks to support the new secretary.
Mullin takes over during a department shutdown caused by liberals fighting against border enforcement. Left-wing politicians are currently stalling to protect their dream of allowing illegal immigrants into polling places.
Wyatt Matters
Working-class families want a secure border and a country where the law actually means something. Putting a common-sense leader in charge of security is a major win for the heartland.
