January 1, DC Police Accused Of Faking Crime Numbers
Wyatt’s Take
- The Justice Department is looking into claims that D.C. police made crime rates look better than they are.
- This probe started after a whistleblower said police changed the numbers and sued over it.
- Some top law enforcement are now under review for their roles.
The Justice Department has launched an investigation to see if Washington, D.C.’s police skewed crime statistics to hide the real numbers. The move comes just weeks after the city settled a lawsuit with a former officer who said data was being cooked.
The whistleblower said the police wanted people to think the city was safer than it really was. President Trump recently pointed the finger, saying D.C. leaders cared more about their image than the truth.
Jeanine Pirro’s office is overseeing the investigation, and local law enforcement officials are also under the microscope after one commander was put on leave for data tampering.
The probe is sparking questions about who Americans can trust to tell the truth about crime in their streets.
