January 1, Congressman Sustains ‘Serious Injuries’ After Falling Off 25-Foot Ladder
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
1945: Franklin D. Roosevelt sworn-in for an unprecedented (and never to be repeated) 4th term as U.S. President.
GOP Rep. Greg Steube sustained “several serious injuries” after falling off a 25-foot ladder at his home in Sarasota, Florida.
The 44-year-old congressman spent the night in an intensive care unit after he was “knocked” off the ladder while cutting tree limbs on his property Wednesday afternoon, Steube’s office said.
Steube’s injuries “are still under assessment but not life threatening at this time,” his office said. “He is making progress and in good spirits.”
Steube’s office thanked the medical staff who are treating the congressman, “the individual who witnessed the fall and immediately called 911,” and “members of the media who waited patiently to accurately report the incident before releasing falsities to the public.”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Steube was in “good spirits” when he talked with him Thursday morning. “Our entire conference prays for a swift recovery,” he wrote on Twitter.

some of these home repairs and needs are best done to a professional. My sister and her husband much older than Stube, in their seventies, decided to cut limbs off trees on their property. \thje reason was so a storage building could be brought in without hitting tree limbs. Well they had plenty that needed cutting and all went well till the last tree. Imagine that, So he is on a ladder sawing away maybe a chainsaw. and she is holding the ladder steady. They expected the limb to go the other way but it had other ideas. It knocked him off the ladder hitting his lower leg and foot and her in the face the nose to be more exact. So both were not in good shape thereafter. They are lying on the ground wondering how to get help. both cannot move. She has no phone on her but luck has it and his is still in his pocket. So they call nine one one. When they came the emts saw them both lying on the ground and just hearing what happened expected the worse. The limb that hit them of course was not one of the smaller ones. She had to have surgery on her nose and he had surgery on his ankle and foot. So the cost they saved went here.

sometimes it isn’t about the money. it is about satisfaction of doing something for yourself. I am also in my seventies. and I am totally disabled. but, I still do all I can myself. you just have to know your limitations, and what CAN happen. I know I can’t climb a ladder, etc. but I sure can cut the low hanging limbs. I don’t use power tools, just hand clippers. I do have a lawn service, but they dont always keep it cut short like I prefer. kudos to them for trying to do their own work. sorry it turned out so badly.
