Wyatt’s Take

  • A Houston physician stands accused of filing phony COVID treatment claims that never happened.
  • Taxpayers could lose thirty million dollars if the scheme is proven true.
  • The case shows why real accountability at the federal level still matters to working families.

A Houston doctor has been indicted for allegedly submitting tens of millions in false claims to federal health programs for COVID-19 patient visits that investigators say never took place.

The charges accuse the physician of billing Medicare and Medicaid for thousands of nonexistent appointments, pocketing payments that should have gone toward actual patient care.

Prosecutors claim the doctor used billing codes tied to COVID treatment even though the supposed patients had no record of receiving any service.

“This kind of fraud drains resources from the very programs our seniors and low-income families count on,” one investigator stated.

“Every false claim takes money away from real medical needs and raises costs for everyone else,” the official added.

The indictment alleges the scheme stretched across multiple years and involved more than thirty million dollars in improper payments.

Authorities say the doctor submitted claims for services at locations and times when records show no patients were present.

Federal agents executed search warrants at the physician’s offices and seized records as part of the ongoing probe.

“We will continue to root out waste and fraud wherever it hides,” a Justice Department spokesperson said.
