President Joe Biden became the subject of criticism for apparently checking his watch during a ceremony for the 13 US service members killed during the attack at the Kabul airport.

President Biden and first lady Jill were at the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware for a dignified transfer ceremony—a solemn procedure honoring the return of the remains of service members who died in combat.

At one point, Biden appeared to glance at his watch during the somber ceremony, prompting rebukes from veterans, GOP members, and conservative pundits.

“Looks like he was being inconvenienced by having to show some respect for these American Heros [sic],” Samuel Williams, a disabled US Army veteran, said on Twitter.

“Many of us remember Pres Bush 41 checking his watch during a debate and how awful it looked (even though we all felt same way about that debate.) But this is shocking and will be remembered,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee tweeted.

“It’s true. Joe Biden checked his watch during the dignified transfer of the servicemembers killing in Afghanistan at the airport,” columnist Nicholas Fondacaro tweeted.

One Navy corpsman, one Army soldier, and 11 Marines were among the casualties. Their ages ranged from 20 to 31.
