January 1, Another Star Ditching Hollywood’s Glitz for Wyoming Simplicity
Stewart Petersen, known for his role in “Where the Red Fern Grows,” revealed that he left Hollywood for a simpler life in Wyoming.
A Wyoming native, Petersen experienced coincidences leading him to acting but found fame didn’t bring personal satisfaction, according to a recent interview. His life changed when his uncle, Lyam Dayton, asked him to read lines for a script. Initially hesitant, Petersen said, “I was hesitant, but he coaxed me, and I didn’t think there was no harm, no foul done.”
Acting since age 13, Petersen starred in films such as “Seven Alone,” “Pony Express Rider,” “Rivals,” and “Against A Crooked Sky.” However, Hollywood never truly captivated him. He stated, “I just never liked the way people seemed to be so awestruck with people in the film industry. When the crowds would come around and be pushing for autographs it was just something that I absolutely didn’t like. It had no appeal.”
The former actor described feeling trapped in a career he never planned. “I thought, you know, I’m not really interested in having the part, but I want to win. That’s kind of how I saw it, that if I won the part, I might achieve something.”
Petersen eventually decided to leave the life many dream of and returned to his family’s ranch in Wyoming. Now a husband, father, building contractor, and outfitter, he has no regrets.
