January 1, Ammo Shortage: No End In Sight
Greetings Middle Americans,
Ammunition inventories that were drained during the pandemic show no signs of improvement, according to Smith and Wesson CEO Mark Smith. “It’s widely known the ammunition shortages continue,” said Smith & Wesson CEO Mark Smith. “There is still a lot of interest in firearms.” The company said it shipped nearly 2.5 million units last year, up 70% from the previous year.
Dozens of Portland police officers resigned after one officer was indicted for allegedly using his baton to assault a protester last summer. The mass resignation of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) occurred after a grand jury indicted charging Officer Corey Budworth with fourth-degree battery. All the officers who resigned from their positions returned to their regular assignments.
A new study finds that the coelacanth, a giant fish that has been around since the prehistoric era, can live for up to 100 years. Scientists long believed that the mysterious fish had a lifespan of 20 years. Scientists were also able to learn that they remain pregnant for at least five years. Coelacanths are so rare that the only specimens that can be studied are ones that have already died.
There is likely a legal clash on the horizon. The Justice Department argued that a law in West Virginia that bans transgender youth athletes from participating in women’s sports is unconstitutional and should be overturned. The DOJ made a similar argument regarding a law in Arkansas which bans “gender-affirming care” i.e. hormone therapy for transgender youth. “Prohibiting medically necessary care in the manner proscribed by Act 626 amounts to intentional discrimination against transgender minors on the basis of sex,” the DOJ said.
Kim Jong-un said that North Korea needs to prepare for “both dialogue and confrontation” with the United States. Kim “stressed the need to get prepared for both dialogue and confrontation, especially to get fully prepared for confrontation in order to protect the dignity of our state” and ensure a “peaceful environment”, Korean Central News Agency reported.
President Biden says that the delta variant of Covid-19 appears to be “particularly dangerous” for young people. Studies indicate that delta is about 60% more transmissible than the alpha variant. “The data is clear: If you are unvaccinated, you’re at risk of getting seriously ill or dying or spreading it,” Biden said.
Stay safe,
Fraser Dixon
