Abbott Sends Busloads of Migrants to Chicago

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sent two busloads of migrants to Chicago, and Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) is not happy about it.
“My frustration comes from the actions of the governor of Texas,” Lightfoot said at a press conference. “There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to do none of those things. Instead, he chooses to send human beings across the country to an uncertain destination. That’s unacceptable.”
“He is manufacturing a human crisis, and it makes no sense to me,” she said.
Abbott has said he will continue to send migrants to sanctuary cities until the federal government addresses the border crisis.
“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans—and Americans—at risk and is overwhelming our communities,” Abbott said in a statement.
“To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C., and New York City as an additional drop-off location,” he continued.
“Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”Â
Last week, Lightfoot called Abbott “racist” for busing migrants to sanctuary cities.
“Unfortunately, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is without … shame or humanity. But ever since he put these racist practices of expulsion in place, we have been working with our community partners to ready the city to receive these individuals,” she said.
