January 1, Defense Bill Spurs Debate Over Navy Spending Priorities
The big government folks are at it again! They passed a nearly $884 billion defense bill, and guess what? Instead of just focusing on keeping America safe, they’re spending time and money to protect plants in Hawaii. Yep, that’s right! The Navy wants to fight these bugs called coconut rhinoceros beetles because they hurt palm trees. Now, I love nature as much as the next person, but shouldn’t our military be focused on defending our country, not saving trees?
A Navy spokesperson says these beetles don’t harm our military bases, but they do damage the environment by killing palm trees. They’ve already been pouring money into this effort and now it’s getting even more funding. But nothing in the bill even tells us how much money this will take.
And that’s not all, folks! This new bill sets aside hundreds of millions of dollars for minority-serving schools and some other less-than-essential projects. But it gets worse—our military can’t seem to manage its own money. They failed their annual audit for the seventh time in a row, not accounting properly for over $824 billion!
The government’s spending is through the roof. We’re in a big hole right now, with a $1.8 trillion deficit, and our national debt keeps piling up—now over $36 trillion!
Oh, and there’s even more foreign aid tucked away in this bill. Republican Rep. Tim Burchett from Tennessee is rightly upset. He said in a video that we’ve got to do better than this!
Now this bill is heading over to President Biden’s desk to be signed. Will he listen to the people? Or will this bill become another example of out-of-control government spending?
Wyatt Matters!
The government is spending a lot of money, and people are worried about it. The defense bill, meant to keep our country safe, is being used for other things, like protecting palm trees in Hawaii from beetles. While nature is important, should it really be the military’s job to handle this? It seems like their focus should be on defending us from threats, not managing bugs. This comes at a time when every penny should be spent wisely, especially with such a large bill.
Moreover, this bill doesn’t stop there. It sets aside hundreds of millions of dollars for certain schools and projects that some people believe aren’t as essential. On top of that, the military hasn’t managed its finances well. They’ve failed their financial audit seven times in a row, not properly accounting for a massive amount of money. Our government is already in a $1.8 trillion deficit with a national debt exceeding $36 trillion. Shouldn’t more attention be given to fixing these problems?
To make matters worse, additional foreign aid is included in the bill. Many, like Rep. Tim Burchett, feel that enough is enough. It seems that if things continue this way, we will only see more careless spending. Now that the bill is going to President Biden, it’s crucial for him to listen to the concerns of the people and see if this bill truly serves the best interest of the country.

If it were going to Trump or Regan, possibly there would be some cutting made. But going to a Democrat President, he will probable add 30-34 billion for his son’s narcotics.

I’m sorry, but if this story is even 1/4 true, The defense bill is designed for the use of the defense of the United States. I do believe that we have organizations specifically designed for problems with the environment.
If the United States Deems this specific problem strong enough, congress should give these organizations the money to combat this problem. Not take money away from the Military.
I’ve been in the military before from 77-85 and many of places I saw needed drastic repair and updating in the defense of the country. I’m sure it is still this way now.
Bugs on an the Island of Hawaii is a civilian problem not a military one.
Get your priorities straight!!!!

Congress is like a drug addiction- addicted to spending our tax dollars on anything some hairbrain can dream up. The comparison to a drunken sailor is an insult because at least the drunken sailor is spending his own money.

I spent over 40 years in the military and working for the DoD. Waste has and always be its mantra and until someone, hopefully Trump stops this insanity it will never stop, especially if a Democrat is in charge. America must change its attitude towards excess expenditures, but the Biden regime continues to waste our hard earned money. A balanced budget admendment must be introduced and pasted in 2025, but I know not a single Democrat will support it.
