January 1, Hollywood Stars Rally Against ICE at Sundance

Wyatt’s Take

  • Hollywood elites keep using their spotlight to bash law enforcement and ICE.
  • Big-name actors showed off anti-ICE pins at glitzy film fests while working folks deal with real-life border chaos.
  • This is more out-of-touch coastal showboating, not the voice of regular Americans.

Hollywood celebrities made headlines at the Sundance Film Festival, using the red carpet to protest ICE after a Minneapolis shooting. Olivia Wilde and Natalie Portman wore “ICE OUT” pins and voiced anger at law enforcement, calling ICE “criminal” and their actions “hideous.”

“We can’t go another day just sort of accepting this as our new norm. It’s outrageous. People are being murdered. And, I don’t want to normalize seeing people being murdered on the internet. On film. It’s. It’s hideous. And so if we can do anything out here to support the movement to cast ICE out, to delegitimize this unbelievably criminal organization, then that’s what we should be doing,” Wilde said.

These stars described protests across the country as “inspiring.” Portman spoke about “devastating” events in America, using her platform to criticize ICE while celebrating her new movie.

Social media users reacted sharply to the protests. Some praised the celebrities, but others mocked them, calling it “virtue signaling” and labeling Hollywood “out of touch.”

The anti-ICE push carried over from earlier this month at the Golden Globes, where many stars sported slogans and called for action against ICE after another protester’s death. Some on social media took offense, saying Hollywood only proves them wrong on what matters by backing the protests.

Wyatt Matters

Out here in Middle America, folks care more about safe communities and standing up for law enforcement than Hollywood’s red carpet drama. Regular Americans want secure borders, honest work, and real solutions, not lectures from out-of-touch celebrities.

The only ICE “murders” I have read about were cases of people being shot because they were a deadly threat to the agents enforcing the law. The people posing the deadly threats to law enforcement are the ones in the wrong. It makes me sick to see people who are supposedly US citizens opposing law enforcement.
