January 1, Biden receives criticism for saying his $3.5 trillion plan “costs zero dollars”
President Joe Biden became the subject of criticism over a tweet claiming that his $3.5 trillion Build Back Better plan “costs zero dollars.”
“My Build Back Better Agenda costs zero dollars,” the tweet read. “Instead of wasting money on tax breaks, loopholes, and tax evasion for big corporations and the wealthy, we can make a once-in-a-generation investment in working America. And it adds zero dollars to the national debt.”
However, even some supporters of the package took issue with Biden’s claim.
“I strongly support the new infrastructure plan,” political scientist Ian Bremmer tweeted. “It is not costless.”
A few members of Congress also publicly took issue with Biden’s tweet.
“This is a lie,” Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) wrote.
“Simple math for President Biden,” Rep. Claudio Tenney (R-NY) stated. “$3.5 trillion does NOT equal zero.”
