Wyatt’s Take

  • Michael Avenatti is being moved to a halfway house after serving about four years of an 11-year sentence.
  • He was convicted of stealing from clients and tried to pressure Nike in a separate scheme.
  • He still owes millions in restitution and will remain under supervision if he follows the rules.

Michael Avenatti once drew nonstop attention from the mainstream media for his attacks on Donald Trump. Now the disgraced lawyer is headed to a halfway house after serving only part of his sentence.

A judge previously sentenced him to 14 years for stealing from a paraplegic client and three others. He must also take part in mental health treatment while living under community confinement.

Records say he could remain in the halfway house system until late 2028 if he stays out of trouble. After that, he will face three years of supervised release.

Wyatt Matters

Hardworking families know justice should be even-handed, not tilted toward well-connected elites. When loud public figures face consequences, Americans want to see the full sentence, not a soft landing.
