January 1, Man who plotted to kidnap Michigan gov. receives six-year sentence
Ty Garbin, one of six defendants charged with allegedly plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison.
Garbin cooperated with officials after pleading guilty in January to a kidnapping conspiracy charge. Prosecutors had asked the judge for a nine-year sentence, citing his cooperation.
“It’s hard to overstate how significant Mr. Garbin’s cooperation was here,” a federal prosecutor told the court. “He didn’t hold back. He would come right out and say, ‘We planned to do this and I was knowingly a part of it.’ “
Garbin is set to be a “star witness” against his co-defendants, the prosecutor said.
