  • President Trump named Dr. Erica Schwartz as his pick to lead the CDC.
  • The move signals a push for accountability and a return to scientific integrity.
  • Trump also tapped Sean Slovenski, Dr. Jennifer Shuford, and Dr. Sara Brenner for key roles.

Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Dr. Erica Schwartz is his nominee to serve as the next director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The President praised Schwartz as a star with a distinguished career in the United States military.

“Erica graduated from Brown University for College and Medical School, and served a distinguished career as a Doctor of Medicine in the United States Military, the Greatest and Most Powerful Force in the World, and then served as my Deputy Surgeon General during my First Term. She is a STAR!”

The President also named Sean Slovenski as Deputy Director, Dr. Jennifer Shuford as Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Sara Brenner as Senior Counselor for Public Health.

These officials will work alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Trump stated these professionals have the expertise to restore the gold standard of science at the CDC.

He noted the agency became a disaster focused on mandates under the Biden administration.

“They will do a TREMENDOUS job leading the CDC as we continue to MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AND GREAT AGAIN!”

Schwartz previously oversaw public health deployment during the pandemic while serving as Deputy Surgeon General from 2019 to 2021.

This nomination follows the removal of the former director who refused to step down after the 2024 election.
