January 1, Country Singer Strikes Sour Note with Botched National Anthem Performance at MLB Home Run Derby

Critics, fans, and social media users alike did not mince words when it came to the musical debacle at the recent MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas. Country music phenom Ingrid Andress took the field to belt out the national anthem but, unfortunately, her rendition left much to be desired.

Andress’ performance started a firestorm on social media platforms, with several users drawing comparisons to Fergie’s notorious 2018 catastrophe and even Maya Rudolph’s parody on Saturday Night Live. One social media user didn’t hold back, stating, “My ears are bleeding. One of the worst national anthem renditions ever.” Even Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr described the performance as, “one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life.”

From Michigan, Andress rose to fame with her 2019 single, “More Hearts Than Mine,” which charted at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite her recent musical flub, Andress has had a successful run in her career thus far, having received four Grammy nominations just last year, including Best New Artist, Best Country Album for “Lady Like,” and Best Country Song for “More Hearts Than Mine.” She was again nominated this year for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her 2022 single “Wishful Drinking.”

The national anthem debacle came on the heels of her exciting news of upcoming music for her fans. Through her Instagram account, Andress announced her latest single, “Colorado 9,” set to come out on July 24th. Not one to be deterred by criticism, she also mentioned two upcoming shows, taking place in Nashville and Denver.

Despite the sour note on her national anthem performance, Andress’ fans and the country music industry at large await her new single release and upcoming performances, reminding us all that even commendable talents can have an off day.

She had to have been on a high from drugs and alcohol. I have a dog that sounds better than that when she is scratching fleas

She put a lot of feeling into debasing our Anthem. Shame. To hear it performed properly, listen to the musical version done by the New Sousa Band.

    Terrible!
Now you know what some of these so called “STARS” sound like without auto-tune.
That’s the state of entertainment these days.

Simply awful! She murdered our National Anthem!!! Whoever is in charge of signing up so-called singers to perform our National Anthem, needs to ensure the person is actually able to sing!!!
