January 1, The 8 Congressmembers Who Voted Against Ending Trade Relations with Russia

The House voted 424-8 to end normal trade relations with Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine.

The measure would increase tariffs on Russian and Belarusian imports, and give President Joe Biden the authority to impose stricter taxes on their items.

Here are the eight lawmakers who voted against the measure:

• Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO)
• Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ)
• Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX)
• Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY)
• Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.)
• Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI)
• Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL)

“If we truly care about suffering and death on our television screens, we cannot fund more of it by sending money and weaponry to Ukraine to fight a war they cannot possibly win,” Greene said in a video.

“The only effect, more arms and more money from America will be to prolong the war and magnify human suffering.”

Massie tweeted saying he believed the legislation granted too much power to the president to sanction other countries.

Gaetz has previously been a vocal critic of providing financial assistance for the conflict.

“Why should Americans have to pay the costs for freedom elsewhere when our own leaders won’t stand up for our freedom here?” Gaetz said during the Conservative Political Action Conference last month.
