January 1, Iowa Tornado Claims Lives
A devastating tornado tore through central Iowa, claiming the lives of seven people, including two children.
The storm marks the deadliest twister to hit the state since 2008.
Emergency management officials announced that four adults and two children had died in Madison County and several other adults had sustained serious injuries.
The National Weather Service office in Des Moines confirmed a seventh fatality in the Lucas County city of Chariton.
Winterset, a town of roughly 5,000 people, sustained some of the most visible damage from the storm.
