January 1, Knicks Pull Off Miracle That Has Sports World in Absolute Shock

Wyatt’s Take
- New York just delivered the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history — down 29 points, they clawed back to beat San Antonio 107-106 and now lead the series 3-1
- OG Anunoby’s buzzer-beating tip-in sent Madison Square Garden into absolute pandemonium — the kind of American grit and never-say-die spirit this country was built on
- Questionable refereeing early on tried to derail the Knicks, but they refused to quit — a reminder that when the odds are stacked against you, heart and determination still matter
The New York Knicks just proved they don’t know how to quit. After trailing by as many as 29 points, the Knicks staged what may be the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history, stealing a 107-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. They now hold a commanding 3-1 series lead.
The winning moment came from OG Anunoby, whose tip-in off a missed Jalen Brunson three-pointer sent Madison Square Garden into an absolute frenzy. But the road to that moment was anything but easy.
Karl-Anthony Towns was hit with two fouls in just the first 62 seconds of the game — one that had Knicks fans fuming. The questionable calls set the tone early, and while there was plenty of basketball left to play, the game shifted dramatically from that point.
The refs didn’t do New York any favors, and the Spurs capitalized. San Antonio opened on a blistering 41-20 run, most of it with Towns riding the bench. Combine that with the Spurs knocking down 54% of their three-pointers in the first half, and you had a 76-49 halftime lead for San Antonio. At one point, they were up by 29.
But you can never count out these Knicks. As they trimmed the deficit to 15 heading into the fourth quarter, the crowd that had been dying to explode finally came alive. San Antonio pushed the lead back to 20 early in the fourth, but New York wasn’t done.
The Knicks ripped off a 13-2 run to cut it to just nine with a little less than seven minutes remaining. Then it was seven with 5:15 on the clock. Then four with 4:32 left.
Then one point with two minutes to go. And then, with just 90 seconds left, the Knicks took the lead.
Pandemonium.
The Spurs hit two free throws to regain the lead with 30.3 seconds left. But again — this is the Knicks we’re talking about. They don’t fold.
That’s when the greatest play in Knicks history unfolded. San Antonio couldn’t get a shot off the inbound, and Madison Square Garden erupted louder than it may have ever been. The greatest comeback in NBA Finals history was complete.
Head coach Mike Brown called Anunoby’s tip-in the biggest play in the history of Knicks basketball. The Knicks outscored the Spurs 58-30 in the second half — a testament to pure grit and refusal to surrender.
Wyatt Matters
This is what America is all about — never giving up when the deck is stacked against you. The Knicks didn’t make excuses about bad calls or impossible odds. They fought back with heart, determination, and belief. That’s the spirit that built this country, and it’s the spirit we need to see more of in every corner of American life. When you refuse to quit, miracles happen.
