  • The White House team will handle briefing duties during her leave.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held her final briefing Friday before starting maternity leave. She joked with the press corps about her upcoming arrival before departing the podium.

“This will likely be my last gaggle for some time, as you can see,” Leavitt said.

“I’m about ready to have a baby any minute, so I will see you guys very soon.”

Leavitt previously returned to the campaign trail just four days after her first son was born. She credited Donald Trump for fostering a pro-family environment that supports working mothers.

The 28-year-old indicated the press corps already has the president’s personal number for any urgent updates. A rotation of current staff members will fill her role until she returns to the briefing room.

“I know you’ll be in very good hands with my team here at the White House,” Leavitt told reporters.
