  • White House vows more actions against Maduro.
  • Sanctions and Navy activity ratchet up pressure on regime.

This week, US forces seized an oil ship near Venezuela, marking a bold new move against the country’s embattled socialist regime.

The Biden administration says more ships on a special list could be targeted soon, aiming to cut off Venezuela’s oil trade that props up dictator Nicolas Maduro.

“We’re not going to stand by and watch sanctioned vessels sail the seas with black market oil, the proceeds of which will fuel narco-terrorism of rogue and illegitimate regimes around the world.”

This tough talk comes as US agencies have been planning for months, hoping to choke off money flowing to Maduro and other hostile governments facing American sanctions.

Tankers shipping oil to Iran were reportedly helping fund groups opposed to US interests. Washington says it’s watching ship movements closely and won’t allow business as usual.

President Donald Trump declared in a recent interview, “Maduro’s days are numbered,” pointing to the highest-ever bounty of $50 million the US has put on a head of state.

The US military buildup near Venezuela has sparked rumors of even bigger operations down the line.

Venezuela’s economy depends almost entirely on oil, but years of mismanagement and sanctions have left their oil sector struggling.

Seizing these tankers is expected to tighten the squeeze on both the regime and everyday Venezuelans already battered by hardship.
