January 1, Unusual Heist Alert: Baby Formula Bandits Caught!

In a surprising development, three individuals, including one minor, have been arrested in Indiana, accused of stealing over $20,000 worth of baby formula. The alleged perpetrators, originally from Dallas, Texas, were detained by the Boonville Police Department. The adults have been identified as Edgar Ramirez and Nora Zarate.

The incident occurred on Thursday when officers were called to a Walmart in Boonville following a reported theft. According to the employees, the suspects had absconded with a significant amount of baby formula before escaping the parking lot.

In a prompt response, the police managed to intercept the suspects’ vehicle near SR 261 and Eskew Road. The vehicle was found to be filled with a staggering amount of stolen baby formula.

The police reported that the car contained a total of 576 containers of the stolen baby formula, valued at an astonishing $22,495.41. The officers’ discovery led to the unearthing of a larger theft ring, with connections to shoplifting incidents at Walmarts in Jasper, Evansville, and Newburgh.

Sgt. Seth Kyle, who has been involved in the investigation, expressed his surprise at the nature of the theft. He stated, “This is my first time ever working any type of baby formula theft. Usually people are going for your high end electronics or sometimes there’s people that are kleptos that want to steal.”

The investigation into this unusual theft is still ongoing. The Boonville Police Department has reached out to other agencies and Walmarts, urging them to contact them at 812-897-6542 if they have noticed any similar thefts of baby formula.
