January 1, TV Host’s Historical Blunder Sparks Free Speech Debate

on

Margaret Brennan, who hosts “Face the Nation,” seems to have missed her history lessons about World War II. When talking with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, she said something strange about free speech in Europe. She claimed that in Nazi Germany, free speech was used to conduct genocide. Wow, is that wrong!

She thinks the people in Germany had free speech under the Nazis? Nope, not true! Even my mom and grandma told me stories about how there was no free speech back then. The Nazi government didn’t allow people to say what they wanted.

Secretary Rubio corrected Brennan, saying, “Free speech wasn’t used to conduct genocide. The genocide was conducted by an authoritarian Nazi regime.” He hit the nail on the head! The Nazis took away free speech and used propaganda. They controlled everything people heard and read through their own Ministry of Propaganda.

If Brennan needs a refresher, maybe CBS should send her to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. It explains that when the Nazis took over in 1933, they got rid of free speech fast. All newspapers had to follow Nazi rules, and if you spoke against them, you were in big trouble.

The Nazis opened up places like Dachau to lock up folks who disagreed with them. The camps were meant to scare people into silence, not give them free speech. Those camps became places where millions were murdered during the war.

JD Vance did something bold at the Munich Security Conference. He stood up for freedom of speech in Europe and called out countries like Germany and the UK for not allowing it. He pointed out stories like a British veteran silently praying near an abortion clinic and getting in trouble for it. Or, in Sweden, where people can’t say things that might upset others. That’s a scary thought because everyone should be able to speak their mind.

Vance admitted this is happening in the U.S. too. He said the Biden administration was pressuring social media companies to censor people. But then, someone like Brennan probably believes that’s okay if it’s stopping opinions she doesn’t agree with.

Vance’s message was important. He encouraged working together to protect free speech. He said, “We may disagree with your view, but we will fight to defend your right to offer it in the public square, agree or disagree.”

Let’s hope European leaders listen and change their ways. It would be great if they protected their citizens’ rights like Vance wants. We all should be able to share our thoughts without fear.

Wyatt Matters!

It’s important to remember that during Nazi Germany, free speech was not allowed. People couldn’t just say whatever they wanted. The Nazis controlled everything, even what people read in the newspapers. Anyone who spoke out against them was in big trouble. They didn’t use free speech to hurt people; they took it away and scared people into silence.

When people don’t have the right to speak freely, it becomes really dangerous. During World War II, those who opposed the Nazis were often put in places like Dachau. These were not places for free speech; they were places of great fear and danger where many people lost their lives. This shows why free speech is so very important, so history doesn’t repeat itself.

It’s brave when people speak up for free speech. Not just in the U.S., but everywhere. Free speech means being able to share ideas, even if others don’t agree with them. Everyone deserves that right because it helps keep people free. It’s something everyone should protect, just like Vance said. We can hope that everyone remembers how important it is to be able to speak our minds.

Great article put in sentences and verbiage we can all easily understand. The topic for free speech must always be discussed thoughtfully and this time it was. Thank you very much for this reminder.

She needs to pick up a history book once in a while! It was so bad in Germany, that the brainwashed children, to tell the Hitler Nazis government,to inform on their parents and other family members and friends, so this is freedom of speech, thirty peaces of silver comes to mind, she is prepared to say anything to get paid high bucks, no matter if she proves she’s an absolute idiot!!!

Sounds vaguely like Biden’s policies. Just kidding. It isn’t vague at all. Perfectly clear as a matter of fact.
