January 1, Trump Pressure Sparks Indiana GOP Showdown
Wyatt’s Take
- Trump pushed Indiana Republicans to back a map favoring the GOP
- Senate blocked the plan despite threats of losing federal funds
- Trump allies vowed to challenge dissenting Republicans in 2026
Indiana’s Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith shared that President Trump told state leaders Indiana could lose federal money if Republicans didn’t pass a map giving the GOP the advantage in every district.
The Senate gave the thumbs-down, even with Gov. Mike Braun’s support and the House’s approval.
Trump allies quickly called for primary fights against Senate Republicans who stood in the way.
“They told many lawmakers, Cabinet members and [Gov. Mike Braun] and I that this would happen,”
Beckwith said. “The Indiana Senate made it clear to the Trump Admin today that they do not want to be partners with the WH. The WH made it clear to them that they’d oblige.”
Republican-led states elsewhere are also feeling the heat to shift their political maps before the next big election.
Don’t let these battles fly under your radar. Stay tuned for what the GOP does next in the heartland.
