President Donald Trump announced that the United States will steer Venezuela’s future after the sudden removal of Nicolás Maduro from power.

He promised a thorough transition to a stable leadership, stressing US oversight and control.

“The dictator and terrorist Maduro is finally gone in Venezuela, people are free,” Trump stated.

Trump said he will appoint a team to guide Venezuela and mentioned Secretary Marco Rubio and Secretary Pete Hegseth as likely leaders.

“We’re going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition,” Trump said.

The president didn’t dismiss sending US troops if necessary.

“We’re not afraid of boots on the ground,” he told reporters. “We’re going to make sure that that country is run properly. We’re not doing this in vain.”

He warned Venezuelan political and military leaders to act fairly, citing the consequences Maduro faced.

Oil will play a big role in rebuilding, with US companies brought in to fix Venezuela’s damaged system.

Trump asserted, “We built Venezuela’s oil industry with American talent, drive, and skill, and the socialist regime stole it from us during those previous administrations, and they stole it through force.”

The president said revenue will help reimburse those affected by Venezuela’s past regime.

Vice President Delcy Rodríguez could step in during the transition, but Trump made it clear she’s not the long-term answer.

“She had a long conversation with Marco, and she said, ‘We’ll do whatever you need.’ I think she was quite gracious, but she really doesn’t have a choice,” he stated.

Trump doubted opposition figure María Corina Machado’s chance of becoming leader.

“It would be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn’t have the support within or the respect within the country. She’s a very nice woman, but she doesn’t have the respect,” Trump said.

Edmundo González, recognized by the US and EU, could take power soon. Machado said, “We are ready to take over the government. We have the teams, we have the plans.”

Trump said the US won’t leave until Venezuela is restored, noting past US-built infrastructure will be replaced.

He also dismissed comparisons to past failed interventions, stating, “With me, we’ve had a perfect track record of winning. We win a lot.”
